Deathly Air

Soaring above the immediate world,
Singing to the music of the earth,
Dancing to the melody found in the wind
As it quickly rushes past....
90 is fast but not fast enough
To leave all cares behind....
So I'm out of my seat and flying above
In the crisp cold air of the night.
This flight lasts for a while...
My wings tire but I'm on an emotional high...
Happy and gay in the moonlight of day
And sunshine through stars of the night.
Something goes wrong....
The clock strikes twelve and the spell is broken.
Shattered by the air now rushing past,
I begin to falter and fall...
Then plummet quickly towards the earth
As the bells jangle and clash
Where once they sang out to me
Urging me on, now turning back.
I fall back and cannot stop the inevitable end...
The crash whose only evidence
Is the bloody trail left on the asphalt...
And my body now torn beyond belief.
Gasping for breath, the flight was worth the fall,
But was the pain worth the smiles?
After oxygen flows again, thoughts are clear....
Yes.
